In quarry operations, processes such as drilling, blasting, crushing, screening, and material transport readily generate substantial dust. Conventional dust suppression methods suffer from high water consumption, low efficiency, and susceptibility to material dampening. Consequently, quarry dust suppressant has become an indispensable step in quarry management.
The primary mechanism of quarry dust suppressant relies on the extensive surface area formed by the foam itself to adhere to, filter, and wet dust particles, thereby purifying dust-laden airflow. The foam, after capturing dust, coats the dust particles' surfaces, preventing secondary dust dispersion caused by vibration. This also effectively addresses dust recovery challenges.
The dust suppressant system uses compressed air to spray the specially formulated foam solution onto mineral surfaces and the airspace above, creating a dense cluster of foam particles that envelops the crushing area. Airborne dust particles coalesce into larger aggregates through interception, inertial collision, diffusion, and adhesion. These aggregates then settle with ruptured foam droplets and become adsorbed onto ore surfaces, halting dust dispersion at its source. This technology employs an open-air dust suppression design requiring no sealed production lines, achieving 96% dust removal efficiency.
The dust suppression solution is naturally biodegradable and suitable for quarries, coal storage and transportation facilities. Its minimal water consumption prevents equipment damage from material over-wetting, ensuring dust is ultimately encapsulated within the ore and incorporated into the finished product.
In practical application, dust generated by blasting operations, though short-lived, constitutes a primary source of metal and soot particle dispersion. This can form visible dense fog posing significant hazards. To control dust generation and dispersion, wet methods such as spraying dust suppression agents onto the rock mass prior to blasting are primarily employed. Following blasting, dust suppression agents are immediately sprayed in large quantities to disperse the blast plume. Additionally, as blasting generates toxic and harmful gases, operators must wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Dust suppression during electric shovel operations, loading activities, or rock discharge is primarily achieved through water spraying using jet-type water trucks or installed misting systems.
Taking shovel loading operations as an example, dust control measures include:
- Spraying dust suppressant onto stockpiles or blast piles using water trucks to increase humidity and suppress dust during operations – a commonly employed, straightforward method;
- Installing water tanks on electric shovel canopies to spray dust suppressant;
- Fitting purifiers within electric shovel cabins to suppress dust.
- Dust control for transport operations
Dust suppressants are periodically sprayed onto haulage routes via water trucks or roadside sprinklers. Frequency increases during dry or windy conditions. In arid northern regions, road surfaces may be treated with calcium or magnesium-based hygroscopic salt solutions, or with cover agents, cold petroleum resin solutions, or oil-water emulsions to achieve quarry dust suppressant.
